S.U.C.C.E.ED Update - Trick or Treat!

Fall can be a festive time with costumes, parties, and treats. It can also be a difficult time for those of us with different sensory needs.
Our goal is to prepare both parents and children to enjoy the season.
Costumes:

• When possible consider the child’s needs. For example, does the child prefer tight or fitted clothing, long sleeves, collars, etc.
• Purchase the costume well in advance
• Allow the child ample opportunity to practice wearing their costume in the weeks coming up to Halloween.

Trick or treating:
This can be approached a couple of ways.

• The child as a helper: This is where your child helps handout candy to the trick or treaters.
• The child as trick or treater: This is where the child goes out to get the candy him/herself.

In both cases, we recommend exposing the child through these activities well in advance. Best practice would be to start 3 to 4 weeks in advance. Dress up and go around your house trick or treating or having others in the household ask the child for candy. Happy Trick or Treating!!!
